Manuel Archain places solitary situations under scrutiny in his new project

July 11, 2014

"I always had the fantasy that animals on science museums were going to wake up at some point. Are they real or just in my mind?"

Manuel Archain's new personal project plays with the idea of displaying human beings in intimate settings in a musem cabinet for everyone to see.

From the staring or meditative state of the subjects, a question arises whether these people are in showcases, or at such a level of abstraction that they can't see their surrounding.

The tension of the fingers, muscles, tendons, eyes, hair – details overlooked in the daily life which we only take time to appreciate when presented behind glass. The dioramas of daily life let us observe our anxiety to those hidden details.
